Arlington, VA – March 23, 2022 – This April, eight international programs are launching on the PBS MASTERPIECE Prime Video Channel in Canada including the new MASTERPIECE crime series “Annika” starring Nicola Walker (Unforgotten, Last Tango in Halifax) as the dry-witted head of the newly formed Glasgow Marine Homicide Unit. In addition, two new programs from Walter Presents will be coming to the channel including the French legal drama “Munch,” following Gabrielle Munchowski (Much), a lawyer who bends the law to get her way and will stop at close to nothing to defend her clients; and the darkly comedic Italian drama “The Mafia Only Kills in Summer,” based on the film of the same name, that follows a family who accidentally becomes involved with the Mafia in the 1970s. Also added to the channel is the dramatic thriller, “The Trick,” the true story of Philip Jones, the world-renowned Professor and Director of Climate Research at the University of East Anglia who was the eye of an international media storm and victim of cyberterrorism that led to the 2009 Climategate scandal.
The subscription rate for the PBS MASTERPIECE Prime Video Channel in Canada is CDN $6.99/month with an Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. Every purchase supports public television for all.
Information about each of the programs is below:
Masterpiece: Annika
Streaming Date: April 17, 2022
Episodes: 6
Genre: Drama, Crime
Language: English
While other TV detectives discuss their cases exclusively with their team, what makes this program unconventionally charming and witty is that Annika addresses viewers directly, “breaking the fourth wall” separating the action from the audience. As DI Annika Strandhed fishes bodies from the waters around Glasgow, Scotland, her newly-formed Marine Homicide Unit faces a steady stream of murders. Annika juggles baffling cases and a rebellious teenage daughter. The former are easier for her to solve than the latter.
Annika’s strikingly effective M.O. is to link the investigation to her obsessive reading of literature and mythology. In Episode One, the harpoon manner of death starts her musing about Herman Melville’s Moby Dick to the viewersand its ruinous quest for a white whale, which provides an oblique clue to the murderer’s motive.
Walter Presents: Munch
Streaming Date: April 15, 2022
Episodes: 8
Genre: Drama, Crime

Gabrielle Munchowski is a lawyer unlike any other; running a law firm with her friend and associate Hubert Bellanger, Munch and her team take on tough cases, defending the innocent and marginal, against all odds. Bold and irreverent, she will cross any line, even if it means bending the law and she will stop at nothing to defend her clients. Intuitive, yet strong-willed and pragmatic in the face of administrative and judiciary absurdity, she inspires her unconventional team and those that believe in her.

The Trick

In November 2009, the IT servers at the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK, were hacked and hundreds of emails stolen. Days later the stolen emails were posted online and an international media storm exploded. Professor Phil Jones and his team found themselves in the middle of a major investigation with their 30 years of research being questioned in the first ‘fake news’ attack. An emotive British story, “The Trick” charts Phil Jones’ (Jason Watkins) unjustified persecution and the ultimate exoneration of both himself and the science, while his wife Ruth (Victoria Hamilton) standing fiercely by his side throughout it all.
