Featuring documentaries from Ken Burns and Henry Louis Gates, Jr.,
PBS Documentaries will offer programs that educate, inspire, and inform audiences.
Arlington, VA – July 2, 2024 – On July 2, 2024, PBS Distribution, a leading distributor of public media content worldwide, is launching a new documentary-focused Prime Video Channel in Canada – PBS Documentaries. Like its U.S. counterpart, this subscription-based streaming channel will include critically acclaimed, thought-provoking documentaries from PBS’s vast library. Audiences will be able to discover and explore a comprehensive collection of documentaries and factual series across all genres, including History, Science, Technology, Politics, Arts, Culture, and Current Affairs.
“We are delighted to offer a significant volume of high-quality content, including our award-winning documentaries to fans in Canada”, says Andrea Downing, President of PBS Distribution. “This offering complements our successful launch of the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel in Canada.”
For more than 50 years, PBS has been America’s trusted home for documentaries. The PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel is a new way for viewers in Canada to access a robust library of documentaries, encompassing the entire Ken Burns collection, which includes The Vietnam War, Baseball, The American Buffalo, The U.S. and the Holocaust, Muhammad Ali, and more.
“We’re thrilled that Canadian audiences will now be able to see all of our past films through the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel,” said Ken Burns. “When the channel launched in the U.S. a few years ago, it fulfilled a dream that we’d had for many years — for our full library of work to live in one easily accessible destination. We also look forward to adding our next film — our first non-American subject — Leonardo da Vinci, to this collection in November.”
In addition to Ken Burns’ library of work, the PBS Documentaries Prime Video Channel will feature a wide-ranging collection of documentaries from PBS’s best-loved and award-winning series, including NOVA, FRONTLINE, AMERICAN MASTERS, NATURE, AMERICAN EXPERIENCE, INDEPENDENT LENS, POV, and many independent producers. Original docuseries include The Trials of J. Robert Oppenheimer, The Gilded Age, and from Henry Louis Gates Jr., Gospel and Finding Your Roots. PBS Documentaries will be available in Canada exclusively on Prime Video Channels. The subscription rate will be CAD 5.99/month with an Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. Every purchase helps support public television for all.
Select programs are also available for streaming with PBS Passport, a station member benefit available within the PBS app that gives viewers extended access to high-quality content. The PBS Passport library is also full of the public broadcaster’s acclaimed drama, arts, science, history, and lifestyle programs. For more information about PBS Passport, visit the PBS Passport FAQ website or contact your local PBS station for details.
